The Oregon State Library is recruiting to fill the position of School Library Consultant assigned to the Library Development team. This position manages and coordinates the Oregon School Library Information System (OSLIS) website, including training local school staff, and maintains two statistics programs: Quality Education Model's (QEM) and Statewide Database Licensing Program (SDLP).
This position is funded for full-time status through June 30, 2009. The State Library has requested permanent full-time funding in the 09-11 budget. This is a classified service position and represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).
The position is located in Salem, Oregon. This recruitment announcement will be used to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill the current vacancy. TO QUALIFY
Your State of Oregon Employment application (PD100) will be reviewed to verify that you meet the qualifications stated in this section. To receive credit, your application form must clearly show that you have:
A Bachelor's Degree in Education, Behavioral or Social Sciences, or other academic area that demonstrates the capacity for the knowledge and skills required for this program;
A Media Specialist Certification; and
2 years experience as a school librarian, media specialist, or related experience.
Your background must have provided you with the knowledge and skills to successfully answer the qualifying questions in this announcement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The purpose of this position is to manage and coordinate the OSLIS website, including training school staff, and to maintain two statistics programs (QEM and SDLP).
The OSLIS website (http://www.oslis.org) is an information literacy portal for K-12 students and faculty that also provides database access to Oregon schools. Coordinates and contributes content, identifies and prioritizes additional features and functionality in collaboration with Oregon Association of School Libraries (OASL).
Manages and coordinates the Quality Education Model's (QEM) school library statistics project. Obtains data from school library statistical reports from the Oregon Department of Education. Analyzes data, applies standards to interpret data and prepares statistical reports of comparative data.
Gathers, analyzes, and reports Statewide Database License Program (SDLP) usage data.
Creates and delivers presentations and training programs for school librarians, instructional assistants, teachers and administrators which include training on the Oregon School Library Information System (OSLIS). Develops measures and systems for tracking training outcomes.
Acts as liaison to organizations with an interest in OSLIS and school library services including the Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon Association of School Libraries (OASL).
Works collaboratively with other library development consultants to deliver services to Oregon public and school libraries.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Employee will be required to travel to schools in all parts of Oregon; you must possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license, and an acceptable driving record. Typical office environment in shared office.
Extended periods of use of computer keyboards and exposure to video display monitors. Uses word processing, spreadsheets, file compression/extraction, translation and other desktop computer programs. Uses typewriter, telefax machine, and other office equipment; and uses Internet access software and e-mail.
The Oregon State Library is a team-based organization. All staff work in collaborative teams and participate in the culture of continuous improvement and team/organizational development. Communicates orally, in person and in writing with staff, agency customers, professional colleagues and the public. Provides training and public information to large groups. Occasional lifting and moving of training materials and equipment. Conducts and attends meetings at various sites around the state, which involve regular travel and may require evening or weekend work.

1. Describe your experience and training with online information literacy and research resources, specifically with the Oregon School Library Information System website.
2. Describe trainings you have created and provided for librarians and other school staff. Please include information on all training mediums utilized (in-person, electronic, other).
